Mayday Mayday! this is US Station 31. We’ve found something in the ice.

It’s Episode 142 of DEAD AIR!

Today we take a look at John Carpenters undisputed masterpiece; 1982’s The Thing!

A distant outpost in Antarctica is invaded by a sinister alien creature with the ability to merge and copy the physiology of any living thing it touches. With the men at each others throats trying to determine who is even human it becomes an all out war for survival. Worst still is the thought that if this unknowable “Thing” reaches populated areas, the human race would be doomed in no time at all. Can they stop it before there is no one left on the base alive and human? Or is it better for them all to die to save humanity.

One of the greatest science fiction horror films ever made. The single best remake ever produced and what many consider to be John Carpenter’s strongest film that includes jaw-dropping special effects by Rob Bottin. The film was at one time considered a box-office bomb and critical failure that nearly ended Carpenter’s career. We discuss how times and perceptions have changed for this masterful achievement in horror, mystery and suspense.

About the author

The Dead Air Podcast was originally supposed to be a small five minute section within a larger show that was to be hosted by our mutual friend and former Rue Morgue Radio host/ producer; Tomb Dragomir. After I made the pilot, I realized that a segment where I talked by myself, sucked. I contacted Lydia and we started to make small segments for Tomb’s show. After about a year of waiting for a very busy Tomb we decided to take matters in to our own hands and launch Dead Air as its own show. Each week we sit down and discuss a horror movie that is either requested by you guys or from our own personal collections.
